A PROSPECTIVE RANDOMIZED OPEN-LABELED PARALLEL GROUP STUDY TO COMPARE THE EFFICACY OF ORAL TERBINAFINE VERSUS ORAL TERBINAFINE PLUS ORAL FLUCONAZOLE IN DERMATOPHYTE INFECTIONS

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to assess the efficacy oral monotherapy (Terbinafine) as compared combination drugs (Terbinafine and fluconazole) in treatment dermatophyte infections. Methods: Patients clinically diagnosed, potassium hydroxide (KOH) confirmed infections (n=235), recruited per inclusion criteria randomized into Group A (Tab. Terbinafine 6 mg/kg body weight daily) B daily+Tab Fluconazole 3 twice week) for 2 weeks. Assessment was done beginning, after week 1 using visual analog scale (VAS) global physician assessment (GPA). At end 4 weeks, they again called back residual disease activity. Results: VAS scoring at showed a significant reduction scores both groups basal score 0 week. Inter-group comparison decrease mean-VAS itch A. Week statistically (p<0.001). GPA reflected gradual but improvement groups. seemed robust reflecting stronger clinical response. inter-group over 1stweek (p<0.001) 2nd (p=0.021). Conclusion: Dermatophyte treated with either terbinafine alone or fluconazole is effective. Combination therapy better than single drug terms
